Airline FlySafair has adjusted its operational schedule to ensure continuity after a strike certificate was issued to pilot unions and no disruption to flight operations is expected.

Further, the airline also notified customers whose future travel plans may be affected by these adjustments.

On July 17, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration issued a strike certificate to trade unions Solidarity and the Pilot Union.

“The unions are expected to issue a formal notice of intention to strike at any time from Friday morning [July 18], with industrial action potentially starting on Monday [July 21] or 72 hours after the notice is issued,” says FlySafair.

“We deeply respect the rights of our employees to participate in this process. It is our responsibility to balance the needs of our people with the long-term sustainability of the company.

“We remain committed to constructive engagement and thank our customers for their understanding as we navigate this important period,” says FlySafair chief marketing officer Kirby Gordon.

Solidarity earlier this week reported that pilots were dissatisfied with the proposed salary increases offered by FlySafair, as well as working conditions following roster changes.
